BOOK REVIEW - Addicted for now (addicted,#2)
Addictive, heartfelt, emotional, and sexy with great writing and a unique story line that really stands apart in the New Adult romance genre. The intensity of Lily and Lo's love for each other just rolls off the page. I felt connected to every step of their journey. This kind of story is the reason I love to read.
It always feels so nice when you're reading such a good great book. This sequel of the Addicted series is one of the most captivating installments I've read so far. Usually I end up feeling disappointed in a sequel, but this one was wonderfully written that it's so hard not to feel completely immersed in it.
This book's story is a direct continuation of where the last book, Ricochet, left off but if you are new to the series, be sure to start with the first book, Addicted To You.
Just as a quick intro, this series follows Lily and Lo who each have an addiction -- she's addicted to sex, he's addicted to booze -- and in the previous books we saw them reach an ultimate low and take measures to start their journey towards healing. But curbing their addictions and staying sober has it's own challenges and when an outside threat enters their lives putting the secrecy of their addictions in jeopardy, they depend more than ever on their love for each other to get them through it.
I'm here," he says, a silent tear dripping down his cheek. "We're going to beat this together.
Most of their adult life they've been enabling each others addiction by covering up for the other one and by pretending that everything was fine all the while knowing that what they were doing was far from okay. Now, they've finally faced their problems. Lo is coming home from rehab and together they will try to stand their ground, to not let their addiction win and to built up a healthy, addiction-free and happy future.
"I'm sick too," he says, " and there will be times where we're weak. Where we beg for the things we can't have. But you can't be scared of that, Lil. You just have to believe that you'll be strong enough in the end. Even if the middle is all fucked up.
Despite the strong dedication they have for each other, things just make everything tough for them... which leaves us wondering how these love birds' commitment for each other stand the test of time.
I absolutely don't have enough words to adequately describe how much this book gave me the depth of emotions after reading this. It's a perfect continuation of the series. I've mentioned this in my previous reviews but the thing that I love most about this series is that the focus is on Lily and Lo being able to be together. While the outside forces are scary and the threat was very real, their love for each other was so intense, so passionate, and so all consuming that I could just always feel like they'd get through their hardships together and that they'd support each other every step of the way.
Your addiction is much different, and there’s less support there... It’s just the way it is. I’m prepared for this. I won’t leave. I won’t ever fucking leave.
See this is why I it feels it's like these books were written just for me because they gave me a couple who were truly, madly, deeply in love with each other and who didn't let stupid things come between them.I adored that, no matter how hard things got, breaking up was just never an option. Lily and Lo were just meant for each other and they were willing to work as hard as they had to to make that a healthy reality.
She wants to be with me, but my mere presence tempts her. I don't ever want to believe that being alone, being apart, is the solution.
It's not.
She needs me as much as I need her. We just have to find our footing in this relationship. And that takes time.
Being away from Lo has not been easy for Lily. She's been able to stay celibate during the three months he spent in rehab but now that they're moving in together, it's becoming harder and harder for her to avoid the temptations. They sleep in the same bed every night but unlike before, when they were still guided by their addictions, they can't have sex every night. Lily's new psychiatrist has given them a list of do's and don't and time limits they need to keep. All of this ways hard on both Lily and Lo. While she struggles with being denied sex, he struggles with having to tell her no all the time.
Lily doesn't do hugs. She fucks until she passes out. And I so badly want to fix her, but I can only help her. The real mending-that has to be her job, her fight, her battle. I can't win this one for her - just like she can't defeat my demons.
At the same time, Lo still struggles with his own demons. And on top of all that someone has started threatening him to expose Lily's secret to the whole wide world. If that were ever to happen, it would destroy not only her family's reputation, but the one thing she desperately counts on, her privacy. Therefore Lo has taken it upon himself to do whatever it takes to avoid her secret from coming out.
I won't ever desert you, love. Not for a goddamn moment. You're mine to take care of, you understand?
Throughout all of this Lily and Lo have the full support of Lily's sisters Rose and Daisy, Lo's half brother Ryke and Rose's boyfriend Connor. The four of them are some of the few people Lo and Lily can count on and together the six of them have become very close friends. I loved these side characters and their own interesting stories and personalities almost, but not quite, as much as the main couple itself and I'm already looking forward to their own spin-offs!
This is not your average NA romance series. This series tackles some very realistic and uncommon subjects and paints them in a very refreshing, interesting light. It's main focus is on two people who are each struggling to overcome their own personal addiction by being there for each other and helping the other one overcome their demons. It's a unique and powerful series and I was really happy with the way this second book ended (no cliffhanger). The third book can't be here fast enough though, I already want more Lo and Lily!! ;)
After all we've been through. Years and years of mistakes, it feels like a dream to be here in this moment. Right now. Sober. Alive. With her.
Lily and Lo are such a perfect couple! I mean, where else can we find such dedicated characters? I admire their devotion to each other despite the difficult things that surround them including their family struggles. There was absolutely no cheating that happened in this book and in the previous books, to my relief-- which is another factor that makes everything really great. Another thing that I loved about this book is the character development of Lily and Lo-- the way they slowly conquered their addiction and beat it. I was awed.
The drama is also the book's absolute strength. I'm not even kidding when I say the last few chapters of the book made me cry. The conflict was perfectly executed that I literally burst into tears. Oh, Krista and Becca... the things you do to my heart!

Now I'm even more excited to find out Rose and Connor's story in the next book. Kiss the Sky, wait for me!
In fact I'm going to read next book right now because it's Connor & Rose's story.
